Blue Orange Green Pink Purple

hugh 027
In November we at Meet Me There, working with our NGO Dream Big Volunteer Ghana, met with the chiefs and prominent members of our community to consider how we can help locally. The community asked us to open fresh water points in the villages as only 8 of the 14 water points are open. The closed water points owe money and have been closed by the water company.

West African Dwarf Crocodiles

Crocs
As I mentioned in previous posts, we are rearing this crocodiles with the long term aim of releasing young back in the wild to try and repopulate a dwinling wild population. I believe the crocodile on the right is a male, and the other two are females. The male has become very dominant, and eats the bulk of the food we provide. It also occasionaly attacks the female, and recently has taken a couple of bites out of her tail. I am concerned about this, and am wondering if any of our readers know how we can prevent this, or is it normal behaviour for crocodiles?

Mango Season

Mangoes
Its nearly mango season and we are all filled with mango madness. This delicious fruit, so ripe and sweet, and so abundant, will fill our senses for the next three months. What a wonderful present from nature over the festive season.

Monitor Lizard

Monitor Lizard
This monitor lizard lives free in the garden at Meet Me There. He appeared a few months ago, and is gradually loosing his fear of humans. He won’t let me come too close, but he strolls around the grounds eating insects and seems to have decided Meet Me There is his home. Local people call these lizards alligators, but this he certainly is not. He defends himself by using his tail as a whip. They are considered quite a delicacy locally, so I will be watching to make sure no one catches him.

We were asked by our neighbours, Negro and Cecilia, to help them get their lovely twins to school. We asked all our friends, and two kind friends have donated enough money to get school clothes, etc, for Achu and Achufi who have now started school.

Turtle Season Again

Turtle Season
Its turtle laying season again. At Meet Me There we have our turtle protection team out on the beaches at night. We protect the adult females as they lay their eggs, and if necessary we move the eggs to a secret location to protect them.
The turtle in the photo is a leatherback, but we also have green turtles and olive ridley laying on the beach.

Chai Chapel Raises Money for Ghana

Greenbelt
At Womad, Greenbelt and Electric Picnic this summer the Chai Chapel raised nearly £1000 towards our projects in the local community around Meet Me There. Thank you so much to everyone who contributed. With this money we will be able to build toilets and help provide fresh water points for the community. We will let you know about the projects as they progress, so thank you from the community.
